Xu Ningsheng (L), president of Fudan University, and Jiao Yang, chairperson of the university council, unveiled the global think tank center.

THE three-day Shanghai Forum 2017 concluded at Fudan University today after nearly 1,000 representatives from political, business, academic and media circles discussed the responsibility and opportunities of Asia in the new era with global changes.

Inaugurated in 2005 jointly by Fudan and Korea Foundation for Advanced Studies, the annual event was themed "Asia and the World: New Impetus, New Structure and New Order" and covered various topics including global governance, major power relations, Internet and environment.

The participants also shared their ideas on relation between China and the world, financial innovation, supply-side reform, "One Belt One Road" initiative, the all-round cooperation between China and 16 Central and Eastern European countries, Internet security, energy network and environmental protection. Their ideas were believed to have provided preferences for Shanghai, China and even Asia in exploring new impetus and building new structure and new order when facing the profound adjustment in international political and economic structure.

They believed that exploring new impetus for economic growth was crucial for development of Asia, which relies mainly on innovation and reform. It meant both innovation in technology and production mode, but also institutional and mechanism adjustment.

They also agreed that Asia needed to give full play to its wisdom and experience and to show underrepresented boldness and responsibility in building new political structure featuring win-win cooperation, geo-economic relation and regional multinational mechanism.

A series of cooperation platforms were established during the forum.

These included a global think tank center, which was set up based on the Fudan Development Institute. The center will perform as a platform for cooperation among international think tanks and construct cultural dialog mechanisms among different countries and regions, as well as provide Chinese experiences and approaches to solve international issues.

The Central Bank of Hungary also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Fudan to deepen research and educational cooperation in all-round cooperation between China and 16 Central and Eastern European countries, "One Belt One Road" initiative and other economic and financial areas.

A "Fudan-Latin American University Consortium" was also established by Fudan and 12 universities in Latin America to enhance cooperation in academic conference, communications among teachers and students, as well as researches.

The consortium will organize a secretariat meeting in Shanghai and another annual meeting in turn in a member university each year. The first annual meeting will be held at the University of Rosario in Colombia in November this year.
